Announcement

Dear MIRA Members,

The MIRA Board of Directors is pleased to announce an important development in the area of robotic surgery. In an effort to consolidate the educational activities and the dialogue and exchange between professionals in our field, the MIRA Board voted to combine activities and resources into a single society by transferring any remaining assets to the Society of Robotic Surgery and dissolving the MIRA Corporation. In so doing, the new Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS) will accept all MIRA members as fully paid membership in SRS through December 31, 2012, when all members will be asked to renew the annual dues to the single SRS society. The MIRA board is excited to see all MIRA members as full members of the newly integrated SRS. This will make us a very strong and competitive multidisciplinary robotic surgery society.

To further unify our community, individuals from the MIRA Executive Committee and standing committees will join the SRS Executive Committee and SRS committees in order to facilitate the greatest advancements for robotic surgery and all its subspecialties. We will have a large annual meeting and the journal “The International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery” will continue to publish articles for all members . The Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS) will continue with its mission to establish educational guidelines through the financial support of government and industry. We believe the greatest progress in robotic surgery is best met under this new organizational structure and as a larger surgical specialty society we will have a stronger voice and larger academic and political impact.

This new venture will decidedly bring our community together and inaugurate the new SRS as the premier robotics organization worldwide. Please help us continue the essential work of MIRA through your membership in SRS. We believe the significant work of our society will not only continue but be strengthened under this new structure. Your subscription to the The International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery will continue uninterrupted.

We are also pleased to announce that MIRA transitioned to a new Management, WJ Weiser & Associates, Inc. (Weiser) to help us work through the details of combining the two societies. . Weiser is a full service association management firm servicing over 50 medical specialty and subspecialty societies on the international, national, regional and state levels. F or more information on WJ Weiser & Associates you may visit their website at www.wjweiser.com . Weiser also provides Executive Director Services to SRS.
